Grace Mbugua has spent the last year and a half walking with 4 young mothers who conceived during or immediately after high school. as a result, they felt hopeless and saw no future ahead.

She has shared 2 of their stories below.

It is amazing how small acts of love can restore hope in the world!

Damaris

Damaris is the daughter of Lydiah who has been helping me in community work around our home. She conceived while in her fourth year of high school, devastating her and her mother.

After several talks with her and her mother, Lydiah agreed to care for the baby and allow Damaris to pursue a career in motor vehicle mechanics. Fortunately she had a sponsor in high school who was willing to sponsor her first year in polytechnic in September of last year and will be sitting for her year-end exams in November.

I have been occasionally assisting her in upkeep. They have requested that I support her with the exam fee, which was not covered, and the fee for the remaining year, if possible.

She is always appreciative of all the support given and is optimistic of a bright future.

Elizabeth

Elizabeth conceived a few months after Form 4 and threw her into confusion. She comes from a very humble background and, after contemplating what to do, she decided to get married.

She felt that her dream to do plumbing was shattered and saw herself trapped in the cycle of poverty. I have had several talks with her trying to show her there is still hope. She desires to do plumbing and I am trying to work with her to help her realize her dream.

I have also met with her husband and he supportive of her going to college.

The plan is for her to start on a diploma in plumbing in January 2025.
