Otto and Elizabeth Kis
Otto and Elizabeth Kis grew up in the same village of Sarmasag, Romania, attended the same church, and were married while he was at the seminary. There God placed in his heart the desire to be a church planter. Otto and Elizabeth were called as church planters in Sacele by the Hungarian Baptist Church in Brasov, Romania. Teleios Ministry was a partner in the church planting from the very beginning as Floyd had taught Otto at the seminary and Elizabeth had acted as Bonnie's translator in 1999. She is a trained nurse.
At the beginning of their ministry in Sacele, Otto and Elizabeth found a "hidden" community – people with disabilities. Otto began to serve their practical needs and share the love of Jesus Christ with them. Slowly, Otto brought them out of their hiding into a community of faith, and the Hope Group was born. The work there opened the door among the Hungarian Baptist Convention of Romania to be more aware of and accommodating within their church facilities to people with disabilities. Another aspect of this ministry is a warehouse that stores and then distributes equipment donated to aid those with disabilities.
Ever the church planter, Otto continues to pastor and is currently working to build a new physical church building. Through the years, the call to reach the non-believing Hungarians and Gypsies of the seven villages that comprise the Sacele area has remained in their hearts. They have reached out through meeting needs of the impoverished, sponsoring marriage enrichment retreats, establishing children’s clubs and summer camps in order to share the Gospel of Jesus. This outreach has resulted in a community of believers. Otto and Elizabeth have worked tirelessly to blend a community of faith, a church, for all people in Sacele.
Otto and Elizabeth have two children, Benjamin and Rhodé who have grown up in Sacele. Benjamin and Otto love fishing. Rhodé has excelled in creative arts, winning several national competitions. Spring of 2026 Benjamin will graduate from the university and is engaged to be married. Rhodé is in her sophomore year at the university in Cluj pursuing a degree in Special Ministries.
